OTPF

OTPF stands for Occupational Therapy Profile Framework. It includes the Domain and the Process. These are two umbrella terms that have several components. The Domain includes occupations, client factors, performance skills, performance patterns, and context and environment. There are several more concepts that underly each of these categories, but they are pretty simple to understand! The process is the second part of the OTPF. It is the way that occupational therapy services are administered or given. It includes evaluation, intervention, and outcomes. Again, there are more concepts that go under these two categories, but they are simple to understand once you know what the term "process" means.  The purpose of the OTPF is to provide a conceptual understanding of the principles that guide the occupational therapy profession. It provides a guideline to treating clients and patients that emphasizes a top-down approach.

Era Presentations Post-Knowledge

I learned so much from all of the presentations today! I learned way too many dates and numbers to recite specifically, so I want to write about what I took away from today's presentations about the profession of occupational therapy as a whole. Obviously, occupational therapy has come a long, long way since its beginnings. There have been so many progressions of the profession and it only showed me that more can be done for the profession. They talked about obesity and physical inactivity, as well as too much "screen time" and not enough face to face interaction with people. I think we can step in as occupational therapists and bridge the gap of what is lacking in these areas. The take home message I got from all of these presentations is that I want to make even more people aware of our profession and show the many ways and facets in wh...

Areas of Specialty and Certifications

I didn't realize there were areas of specialty certification credentials within the field of occupational therapy. After reviewing the chart in the book and checking out the AOTA website, I am very interested in a specialty certification in school systems. I came into this program interested in early intervention and working with children and adults with special needs. I think it would be a really cool certification to have in the school systems. I think being an occupational therapist in a school system would be a very important job and I would love to be someone that could facilitate change in an existing system where help is needed in understanding special circumstances. It would be important to make others aware of what can be done to help individuals get the most out of their time in school and make sure no-one goes unnoticed or not helped. Aside from that certification, I am interested in helping those with special needs across the lifespan. So, depending on how school go...
