Era Presentations Post-Knowledge
I learned so much from all of the presentations today! I learned way too many dates and numbers to recite specifically, so I want to write about what I took away from today's presentations about the profession of occupational therapy as a whole.
Obviously, occupational therapy has come a long, long way since its beginnings. There have been so many progressions of the profession and it only showed me that more can be done for the profession. The last presentation stuck out to me the most because it presented our current decade and the field of occupational therapy today. They talked about obesity and physical inactivity, as well as too much "screen time" and not enough face to face interaction with people. I think we can step in as occupational therapists and bridge the gap of what is lacking in these areas.
The take home message I got from all of these presentations is that I want to make even more people aware of our profession and show the many ways and facets in which we can work and make a difference. I think we can make even more progressions and make more history. I know throughout the years we have gotten more recognition post-wars etc., but I think our skills and abilities need to be utilized in so many more ways and areas.
Occupational therapy is such an exciting field and I genuinely look forward to learning more about it and what it encompasses in the future. I look forward to being able to answer all the questions I'm asked about OT and I look forward to becoming an advocate for the profession and seeking out ways that we can be involved in many more areas of people's lives!
